Test Voucher
When you register you are given a voucher for booking your test. No expiry, single-use. Use it whenever you're ready. If you reschedule your test, a new voucher is issued automatically — you don't lose your spot in the system.
Resit fee
If you don't pass first time: $40 PWC · $55 Boat · $55 Boat + PWC. Same Zoom format, same flexible sessions.
Refunds
Course and package purchases are final — no refunds, exchanges or cancellations once you've enrolled, including change of mind. Can't make your booked test session? That's covered separately by Test rescheduling (left), not a refund.

Who needs a boat licence in Victoria?
You must have a current Victorian Marine Licence to operate any powered recreational vessel on Victorian waters. The good news: getting licensed is straightforward and affordable, and you can complete everything online at your own pace.
Minimum age requirements
- 12–15 years: Restricted Marine Licence
- 16+ years: Full Marine Licence
- Jet Ski / PWC Endorsement: Minimum age 16
How to get your Victorian Marine Licence

- Use your voucher to book your Zoom-supervised review and test
- Receive your Certificate of Competency by Express Post
- Take the certificate to any VicRoads within 12 months to issue your licence
Identification requirements
When you visit VicRoads to collect your licence card, you'll need to present acceptable identification. Essential documents include your driver's licence, passport, or birth certificate. Check the VicRoads website for the complete list.
PWC (Jet Ski) Endorsement
Want to operate a Jet Ski in Victoria? You'll need a PWC endorsement on your Marine Licence. Requirements:
- Already hold (or be eligible to hold) a Marine Licence
- Be at least 16 years of age
- Complete the PWC component of the course
- Pass the additional PWC test (included in our Boat + PWC bundle, or available as PWC Only)
You can add your PWC endorsement at the same time as getting your Marine Licence (Boat + PWC bundle, $145), or come back later and add it (PWC Only bundle, $95).
Validity & renewal
Marine licences are valid for 5 years and must be renewed through VicRoads. There's no additional course or test required at renewal time — it's a simple administrative renewal.

What's actually in the bundle?
Every bundle includes three things: online course access (self-paced, no expiry), a single-use review & test voucher (no expiry), and your Certificate of Competency posted by Australia Post Express with full tracking — all included in the one price. No add-ons, no separate test fee, no surprise postage charge.
How do I use my review & test voucher?
After you purchase a bundle, you'll receive a voucher code by email. Head to vicboatlicence.com.au/Victorian-Boat-Licence-Test/, pick a Zoom session that suits you, and enter the code at checkout. You'll get a confirmation email with your Zoom link and instructions.
How long does the course take?
Most people complete the course in around 4 hours. There are no time limits — work through it at your own pace, over a couple of evenings or in a single sitting. Course access never expires.
When can I book my session?
As soon as you've bought a bundle. Most students book their session for a day or two after starting the course, but you can take as long as you like. Your voucher never expires.
What if I need to reschedule my test?
This is about your booked review & test session — not your course or package purchase. See "Can I get a refund if I change my mind?" below for that.
3 or more days before your session: free of charge. We reissue your voucher and you rebook whenever you're ready.
Within 3 days of your session: a $30 fee applies. It's collected automatically when you rebook — we never chase you for it. We still reissue your voucher; the fee just sits on the next checkout.
Can I get a refund if I change my mind?
No. Course and package purchases are final — there are no cash refunds, exchanges or cancellations once you've enrolled.
Your course access doesn't expire, so there's no rush to use it. If your only issue is your booked test session rather than the purchase itself, see "What if I need to reschedule my test?" above.
What if I don't pass the test?
You can resit. Resit fees: $40 PWC, $55 Boat, $55 Boat + PWC. Same Zoom format, same flexible session times. We'll send instructions for booking the resit.
What's the review & test like?
Supervised online by Zoom. It starts with identity and integrity checks, then a short guided review of the key material with time for Q&A. The test itself is multiple-choice, timed at 40 minutes for Boat and 20 minutes for PWC. Pass marks: 13/15 for PWC, 26/30 for Boat. Results immediately after you finish, and your Certificate of Competency is then posted Express, free.
Do you offer PWC (Jet Ski) endorsement?
Yes. Three options: PWC Only ($95) if you already hold a Marine Licence; Boat + PWC ($145) to do both at once; or come back later and add PWC after you've got your boat licence. PWC endorsement requires a minimum age of 16.
Is the course accredited?
Yes. Vic Boat Licence, a business name of the Australian Maritime Academy, is a Third Party Provider for Go Workplace Training Pty Ltd (RTO 22464), which is accredited by Safe Transport Victoria to deliver the Marine Licence and PWC endorsement course online. The Certificate of Competency you receive is fully recognised by VicRoads.
Can I get my boat licence entirely online?
Yes. You complete the course online, sit your review & test online by Zoom with an accredited assessor, and your certificate is posted Express. You then take it to any VicRoads office to receive your licence card — that's the only in-person step.
Is the Victorian licence recognised interstate?
Yes. Your Victorian Marine Licence is recognised throughout Australia under national reciprocal licensing arrangements. Always check local rules when boating in other states.
How do I renew my Marine Licence?
Your Victorian Marine Licence is valid for 5 years. When it's time to renew, visit VicRoads — no need to retake the course or test. It's a straightforward administrative renewal.
